Why Does My Skin Feel Drier as I Get Older?

Have you noticed that your skin feels drier than it used to? Me Too! I used to curse my oily skin and that's not something i need to worry about these days!

Maybe the moisturiser you have used for years suddenly doesn't feel like enough. Or your skin feels tight after washing your face.

This is very common as we get older.

Why does our skin get drier?

When we are younger, our skin makes more of its own natural oils. These oils help keep our skin soft and stop it from drying out.

As we get older, our skin often makes less oil. It can also have a harder time holding onto water.

For women, changes in hormones as we get older can make dry skin even more noticeable.

You might find that your skin:

• Feels tight after washing

• Feels rough or flaky

• Looks a little dull

• Needs moisturiser more often

• Feels better with richer products

• Feels dry again not long after you moisturise

The good news is that you don't need a complicated skincare routine to help.

Use a gentle cleanser

Start by being gentle when you wash your face. This is really important!

A good cleanser will remove makeup, grime and dirt without taking away much of your skin's natural oil.

If your face feels very tight or squeaky clean after washing, your cleanser is too harsh for your skin. You do not need anything that foams once youre past your twenties!

Give your skin more water

Dry skin often needs help holding onto water.

This is where ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin can help.

They help attract and hold water in the skin, which can make your skin feel softer, smoother and more plump.

Try putting your hydrating serum onto slightly damp skin, then follow with your moisturiser.

Keep that moisture in

Your moisturiser helps keep your skin soft and helps stop it from losing moisture.

As you get older, you might find that your skin likes a richer moisturiser than it did before.

And if your skin is still feeling dry, try adding a few drops of face oil or a face balm over your moisturiser.

This gives your skin another layer to help keep all the moisture in.

Keep it simple

Getting older doesn't mean you suddenly need ten different skincare products.

Your skin may just need a little more moisture and a little more care than it used to.

Start with a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum and a good moisturiser.

If your skin still feels dry, add a face oil or balm.

Sometimes simple really is best.

A great value bundle to start with that contains all of these is our Founders Edit Collection
