Using Hair Oil for stronger, healthier hair

Using Hair Oil for stronger, healthier hair

The Art of Hair Oiling: A Time Honored Ritual for Stronger, Healthier Hair

Hair oiling is one of the oldest beauty rituals in the world. Long before conditioners and serums existed, people relied on nourishing plant oils to care for their hair. From ancient India to the Middle East and across many African cultures, oiling the hair and scalp was a regular part of maintaining strength, shine, and growth. These traditions continue today because they work. Oils protect the hair, soften it, and help maintain a healthy scalp, which is essential for supporting stronger hair over time.

In many households where long hair was the norm, oiling the hair was a weekly practice. Oils such as castor, coconut, and almond were warmed gently and massaged into the scalp. This not only conditioned the hair but also supported circulation through the massage itself. Better circulation equals better hair growth. The hair was often braided or wrapped and left to absorb the oils before washing. These timeless methods can still be used to keep hair lovely today.

At Flowerdale Valley, our Nourish and Grow Hair Oil follows the same philosophy as traditional hair oiling with a blend of ingredients chosen for their long history of supporting healthy hair.

Castor oil has been used for generations as a hair strengthening and growth supporting oil. Its a thick oil, High in Omega oils and vitamin E, pressed from the castor bean.

Sweet almond oil helps soften, strengthen and condition the hair. Contains vitamins A,B and E

Avocado oil is rich and protective, packed with vitamins and minerals.

Rosemary oil improves circulation of the scalp and reduces inflammation, has been shown to be as effective as the hair growth drug minoxidil (if used 2-3 times weekly)

Cedarwood oil stimulates hair follicles and adds shine

For a regular hair oiling treatment at home, massage the oil into your scalp and through the lengths of your hair. You do not need a large amount Leave the oil for at least ten minutes before washing, or leave it overnight for a deeper treatment. If you prefer to keep the oil from transferring onto your pillow, a satin bonnet or a soft towel on the pillowcase works well.

You can also use a light application of the oil as a leave in conditioner to tame frizz and add softness after washing and drying.

I use this oil in my own everyday routine. I swim four or five times a week and always apply Hyaluronic acid serum followed by Nourish and Grow Hair Oil to my long hair before getting into the pool. Chlorine and salt water can be harsh on the hair, so applying a protective layer of oil first helps reduce dryness and tangling. You can do the same whether you swim at the beach or in a chlorinated pool. Apply a small amount through the mid lengths and ends, tie your hair back, or pop on a cap. Using the hyaluronic acid adds water to my hair so that my hair cannot absorb the chlorinated water, the oil protects and waterproofs my hair whilst swimming.

Hair oiling is not a new trend. It is a beautiful old practice that continues to have a place in modern routines. Nourish and Grow Hair Oil brings together traditional ingredients in a simple, natural blend that supports your hair every day whether you are at home or swimming as often as I do.

If you have been wanting a straightforward way to care for your hair, begin with this simple ritual. A little oil, a few minutes of care, and consistency over time can make all the difference.
