Are you familiar with African, marula oil?

Marula oil comes from the marula tree found in Africa, where many parts of the marula tree are used in food and as traditional medicine.

Thousands of years ago, the local Maasai tribe discovered the valuable oil that comes from the kernel of the Marula fruit.

The Maasai tribespeople discovered that Marula oil could heal burns, stretch marks, and scars of all kinds. One of the best oils for aging skin, they consider it a potent moisturizer that penetrates the skin deeply. They refer to it as "miracle oil"

Marula oil in hot demand for use in skincare and there’s a good reason why

Marula oil has become known for boosting skin health and appearance no matter your age or skin type. Marula oil is very similar to your skin’s own oil, so it’s the perfect oil to use on your skin

According to a scientific review published in 2012, marula oil “is widely studied with regard to its anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-parasitic, antimicrobial, and antihypertensive activities.”

Properties of marula oil

Marula oil has a light texture and rich moisture content which has made it a popular treatment for skin, hair, and nails. It contains:

“amino acids L-arginine and glutamic acid, which have hydrating, anti-aging properties

fatty acids including palmitic, stearic, oleic, and myristic acids, which have emollient and moisturizing benefits

Antioxidants (60% more antioxidants than other similar oils) marula contains phenolic compounds and vitamins E and C, which fight free radicals and may stave off skin damage caused by the ultraviolet rays of the sun and pollution”(source: Healthline.com September 26th 2019)

Marula oil is lightweight, it absorbs easily. This makes it a great moisturiser for dry or mature skin as well as for oily skin because its not greasy. It may be beneficial for smoothing and softening fine lines, preventing stretch marks, and keeping skin hydrated and well-nourished. It’s also a great lip moisturizer. Also because of its antimicrobial power it can be helpful at keeping the bacteria that contribute to the formation of pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads under control.

Marula oil is particularly healing and nurturing for skin that has been damaged by the sun or is sensitive

Marula oil contains four times the amount of vitamin c than orange juice, which can help to brighten the skin and increase collegen production

Currently There is no scientific evidence to show that marula oil is beneficial for skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. However, anecdotal evidence points to its ability to reduce the irritation, itching, and dryness associated with these conditions.
